With all the junk thrown around on the internet these days it can be hard for people to tell who and what is real and what may not be legitimate. I have long been a member of the Better Business Bureau and the local Chamber of Commerce through my Mortgage Business. Truthfully, this was done more for the stickers that I could put in my window and the logos on my advertisements. These add a level of credibility and hey -- any little bit can help to start a conversation. Once that conversation is started, there will be no credibility issues as potential team members will quickly learn who I am and what my opportunity is about. The Association of Better Networkers (ABN) has a great code of conduct and has a very nice banner (included below). Feel Free to click on it and check it out. It is good to know there is a community dedicated to keeping a high level of integrity and maintaining social responsibility in our industry.

Pay Per Click (PPC) Courses, Training and How To’s

Once you embark down the road of Pay Per Click marketing, it can be overwhelming and can get expensive very quickly!! This is not throwing an ad up on a billboard or in the local paper. Google makes you work way beyond placing your ad. They want relevance for the user, the advertiser and their company. Their algorithms are as obscure as a “secret sauce”.

So as a newbie, where do we turn?

The purpose of this post is to share some of the resources I found useful. I started PPC on Adwords about six weeks ago and it is a daunting task. There are tons of resources out there and all are at a premium. Google’s training tools are good for learning the system itself but not so helpful in marketing and getting results. I am in no way saying you need to spend money to learn adwords. Google has free sources and tools and you can find other free sources as well. I am simply sharing what I have tried out. Here are my recommendations for worthwhile resources if you are new to PPC.


Perry Marshall's Definitive Guide to Adwords($49) -- this is a MUST! This e-book covers the essentials and gives great marketing tips.

PPC Domination by Jim Yaghi and Magnetic Sponsoring. This one is more expensive ($497) but gives you the very basic information -lots of videos and is for someone who has never done adwords --there are lots of marketing tips in this one beyond the adwords logistics. This is the "A to Z" guide for network marketers. There's a top earner in my company that is always endorsing this one which is what led me to buy it.

Double Digit CTR by James Schramko (Videos, Audio and E-book for $37 with no fluff - he gets right to the point). This course includes audio, video and an e-book. It is geared toward affiliate marketing, but I found it to be very useful in that he gets right to the point and to what works. He also has a lot or resources for tools that you may want to implement into your strategy after you get going. This isn’t going to be good for a true beginner. I think this is useful after you have a campaign going and need to learn how to optimize and set new strategies beyond the basics.

There is also a website/blog called PPC Hero that I have found some useful nuggets on.

I am continually getting e-books and videos to try and get all the knowledge I can on adwords as this is the driving force. Drive traffic effectively and sales will be made. I will weed out the junk and share what I think is worthwhile.

Work From Home or Work From Anywhere?

Do you want an opportunity to work from home? Or is it freedom itself that you are truly after? The answer for me is easy. I want the freedom. I have been chained to my brick and mortar businesses long enough. Stealing a three day weekend here and there isn’t the kind of annual vacation plans I have for my three children and certainly isn’t the freedom I expect from being an entrepreneur. I realize great effort is involved in building a business. I renewing a focus on putting in a concerted effort in building it up front and then letting it run and maintain profitability for the long term. This requires a system, which is the cornerstone of this internet marketing plan.

I do like the fact that I have not had a boss in almost ten years. I have enjoyed success in my mortgage business. The problem is that I was never really leveraged. The automation was never in place. Given the current changes in the mortgage business I don’t know if I can ever be leveraged and gain the freedom I wanted from being my own boss. So started what I call -- “The Search”. This search lasted almost a full year and was necessary for me to gain experience and first hand knowledge of all the junk that is put out there.

When I started searching for a work from home “exit strategy”, I had a few qualifying factors in mind. One was that the company had to be legitimate, honest and reputable. If I was going to put my reputation and name on something then it needed to be completely legitimate. The second factor was that it needed to be profitable. Thirdly, I wanted to be able to work from my laptop – from anywhere. Work from home sounds good, but “working from anywhere” sounds better. There were many other factors I was looking for in a work from home business opportunity but I will keep it to three here.

I am enjoying the work in this business model. The work is not hard, although it’s easy to become overwhelmed with information at times. That said, there’s definitely a learning curve as I have not done much in the way of internet marketing in my other businesses. I am already receiving the rewards in five short weeks and that is very motivating and re-enforces my commitment. I have run a franchise before where it took three years to reach a break even point and that wasn’t even factoring in my start up costs.

So now I am realizing results and the next step is to work with those that allowed the results to begin. Building a team is a major part of building my success. Assist the team members grow their businesses and the success of my work from home or “work from anywhere” opportunity will be a foregone conclusion.

Don’t Be Busy In Your Business, Be Productive!!

I used to think my ability to multi-task was a good thing. I guess my background in the restaurant business taught me that being able to multi task allowed me to be more productive. You need to be able to juggle a lot of tasks during a busy dinner shift.

Multi tasking in your business may not lead you to be as productive as one might think. If you are answering the phone, reading e-mails and working on your marketing campaigns all at once then it would be a wonder that you would ever be able to effectively grow your business.

The productive tasks in your business, you know -- the ones that generate revenue, need to be worked on exclusively from other activities. Writing effective ad copy, making a good video or optimizing a pay-per-click campaign for efficiency requires a laser focus. If you want to achieve real profitable results in your marketing efforts then you must set them up properly. If you are multi-tasking while doing these things then it is liable to come through in the results. Without a concerted effort your articles may have typos or be hard to follow, your videos may be rushed and therefore ineffective and your pay-per-click campaigns will not gain you the results you are after.

The tough part about pulling this off is that your online business may not be your full time venture – yet. If this is the case then tackle your internet marketing when you will be uninterrupted. It may seem like you are spending a little less time on your online business but the time you spend will be more effective and you will not be “stealing” the time away from your current primary business.

Tackle your marketing in segments with a laser focus and you will enjoy more profitable results. Eliminate the multi-tasking and you will not longer lose time being busy in your business rather you will invest your time by being productive.

Establish Your Gameplan According To Your Passion

Your first step in achieving success in your business is to establish your vision for your success. I previously wrote about the importance of having a mission statement and if you haven’t already done so then I would suggest revisiting that exercise (click here to revisit) and getting that done. It may seem like an obligatory drill or “necessary evil” but make no mistake that it is a key step toward your success.
Develop a clear picture of what your business is. Ask yourselves these questions: Why does it exist? Who are you looking to attract? What are you passionate about? Set yourself apart from your new venture for a moment and look at what you were looking for before embracing this business. You found what you are looking for and now you are out to attract those looking for the same. You are going to attract those that want the same opportunity you want and are passionate about the same things. Be yourself in your game plan, it’s definitely easier than being someone else. Notice the use of the word “attract” here. Your goal should be to brand yourself and your business to attract people to your opportunity. Cold calling and chasing prospects is exactly what you most likely do not want to be doing. Attracting those already interested in what you have to offer leads to a conversation that is enjoyed by all.
Remember an organization exists to give value to its team members. Your success will come as a result of assisting others to reach their goals. Your passion in your business should be communicated clearly. You will need to be in a constant and persistent pursuit of your goals. Stay on track, communicate clearly as to attract like minded entrepreneurs and share your opportunity. It’s much easier to share an opportunity than it is to sell anything.
So go ahead and identify the reasons your business exists and pinpoint what it is you are passion about. Then set your game plan accordingly.

Your Values, Beliefs, Behavior and Stress

What do you value? A lot of common answers would be health, family, wealth, faith etc. But are your values and beliefs congruent with your behavior. Let’s say you highly value your health. Although your belief system supports good health you may find yourself inactive, overweight or your diet contains poor nutrition. In this example your values and your behavior are in disconnect. This causes stress in your life and can lead to poor health, unhappiness and even depression.

Let’s say you value wealth, financial freedom and living debt free. However you find yourself deep in debt, trading time for money and focused on your week-to-week budget. Again – here you find disconnect and the end result is stress.

Life is too short to live in a constant state of stress. Studies prove that stress will in fact make your life shorter. The change starts with YOUR desire, YOUR state of mind and YOUR action. In short -- it starts with -- YOU!! There are entire books on this subject and for good reason. People tend to focus on external reasons for the causes of their stress. Until you start with yourself, you will not change and your stress levels will remain constant or likely rise.

Examine your values. Ask yourself if your behavior is consistent with what you value. Then take the necessary steps to get yourself in harmony. The same old pattern of trading time for money is not going to get you out of debt. Watching TV after work with a bag of chips is not going to slim your waistline.

There is a consistent theme in my writings. Formulate a plan and take action. Waiting around to cash your lottery ticket is not getting you to where you want to go.

Hold On To Your Plan -- “Loosely”

You have to have a DEFINITE plan, a DEFINITE purpose and take DEFINITE action to get your results. So why am I talking about holding on to your plan “loosely”? That is exactly what I am saying without detracting from the importance of planning, purpose and action.

When you are marketing a business, you need to continually monitor and track your results. Your end goals will not be changing but your plan and methods will. So, while it is imperative to have a plan you must be prepared to change as you go based on the results you are getting. Your article marketing may not be getting conversions or desired visits, your facebook marketing may not be getting conversions, etc. These will require you to continually educate yourself and implement changes in your plan until you get your desired outcome.

Modeling the actions of the successful persons in our industry will get you going. The important thing to note is that you are not that person. You are unique and your experience and message is different. Therefore you will need to market according to your personal style and personal branding. People are going to join YOU in your opportunity here. They are plugging into a proven marketing system with all the tools they will need, but make no mistake in the fact that they join you first and foremost.

Commit to holding loosely to your game plan and commit to assisting others in their success and your success will a foregone conclusion.

All the Right Reasons Require All the Right Resources

You want to be an online business marketer for all the right reasons. What Sizzles vs. Delivering Real Value

The ads have flashy pictures of big houses, fast cars and exotic vacations. Stories of a quick buck if you ACT NOW!! Those trying to catch your attention need to do it quickly and attract you to a promise of easy success. It’s enough to make you dizzy. Every opportunity, whether truly legitimate or complete scam, has to compete for clicks and enrollments. Its too bad so many go about it in the wrong fashion ultimately ending in a classic over promise and under deliver story for the enrollee. Do a search on GOOGLE for almost any Internet based business and you will find lots of scam stories. It’s too bad really. Bad news sells better than good news so the success stories will be harder to find, unless of course that is what you are looking for. If you search for a scam story on an opportunity you will surely find it. Search for a success story and you will find that too. You will find what you are looking for, however bad news sells better and misery loves company. Just look at the headlines of any newspaper or tabloid. Anyway –back on point -- I say this because there are faults at both ends of this story.

Okay – hear me out. From here on let’s assume we are talking about legitimate online business opportunities (as opposed to outright scams, ponzi’s, pyramids, etc.). On one end you have ads with lots of hype and the advertiser may have no real intention of giving those that enroll the tools or support they need to reach the riches pictured on a landing page. They either do not know how or are not willing to be a good business coach and leader. On the other end you have someone looking for a get-rich plan, maybe a “passive” income and join the venture and once you’re in the riches will just flow. You are entitled to great rewards once you pay your enrollment fee, subscription, business kit purchase, etc. – Right? Then when riches do not roll in, you might as well scream SCAM!!

Let’s get real. First off, if you cannot contact the advertiser by phone or at least with some e-mail correspondence –ask yourself what kind of support will you ever receive and if you should be engaging in the opportunity? Secondly, do you want to do the work required to attain real wealth, or do you want the get rich quick entitlement scenario? What is your mindset? All success will take real effort. Do your due diligence. Does the opportunity and the advertiser/coach/sponsor intend to deliver real value? Are they honest and sincere (it will show in their actions)? Success stories are out there and they are very real. Those that are very successful in their online businesses are referred to as three percenter’s, due to the estimated ninety-seven percent failure rate of those who set out in an online opportunity. I am sure there are plenty of broken promises out there, but people basically fail in a legitimate opportunity because they quit. The three percent that achieve this success are not a product of luck or getting in early. They worked hard and smart, developed the skills needed in their art and most likely developed other successful people underneath them.

So before you set out for your first big venture online you must ask yourself the following questions: Are your intentions ethical, honest and earnest? Do you have the proper sponsor/leader to empower you to attain your goals? NOTE the word “empower” as opposed to “entitlement” mentioned earlier in this article. Once you reach a level a success are you willing to coach others to duplicate it?

I have made the decision to be part of the three percent that are successful working from a laptop. What is Your Mission Statement?

Do you have a Mission Statement? It’s paramount to have one written down. You can start with your basic goals and then tweak it as you go to detail your mission and encompass all that you are going after. I have used this important tool in every business I have been in, from new restaurant ventures to mortgage operations. Your mission statement should be written, framed and posted on the wall. You and your team members alike will benefit from a well defined Mission Statement.

Here is mine:

“Learn to treat people as they wish to be treated. Practice this until it becomes second nature. Demonstrate this by listening compassionately and establishing credibility. The foundation for that credibility is this: Always conduct myself in a manner that does credit to the image I wish to project. In order to be trustworthy, I strive to always do what I say. In order to be competent, I gain enough information to make good decisions in dealing with my team member’s goals. In order to be respected, I never deliberately do anything that would cause others to be disappointed in me. In order to be accessible, I ask team member’s about their goals, fears and priorities. In these five steps lie all the wisdom I need to succeed with people. Derek Bayer is a “people-driven” leader and if I succeed with people, all other successes will follow!! “

Empowerment is the key in your success as well as that of your team or organization. You can be coached, mentored, trained and taught until the cows come home. In order to translate your knowledge to results you have to act on what you know and learn. You do not receive compensation for what you know. You receive compensation for what you DO with what you know. A good leader gives the tools necessary for team members to create their own successes, then they pay if forward and create success in those that join them. It’s the whole "Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish and he will eat for a lifetime" concept put into motion.

Remember that we are always learning. Once you stop – you and your business will stop growing. The surest way to develop a successful business of your own is develop successful people and empower them to do the same.

Setting Goals Is Only Half Of The Battle To Achieving The Lifestyle Of Your Dreams With Your Home Business

We hear it all the time...
You must set goals in order to be successful in your own business. Its the secret of the wealthy. Its the difference between modest success and explosive success, etc.
Do you agree?
I'm here to tell you it's only half true...
Setting goals and writing them down is one thing. Anyone can do that and many people do. But most never, ever achieve their goals.
I'll tell you exactly why shortly but first you must know this...
Despite your best efforts, you will never achieve the success you are looking for if you never actually set goals for yourself and your business in the first place. Let's at least agree on that.
Ask yourself, "What goals have I written down for myself and my business?"
Most people never set goals for themselves or their business at all. One day leads to another and the days continue to disappear without success.
How can you get to where you want to go if you don't know where you're going?
The biggest roadblock to goal setting is YOU. Setting goals requires you to actually write down your dreams and put a date of accomplishment on them.
Do not get in the habit of working your business without goals. This leads to apathy and an empty checking account.
Goals are the lifeblood of your business. Written goals that is. Statistics have shown over and over that small businesses fail within the first five years. You do not want to become a statistic; you want to become a success.
So how do you become successful at setting goals?
The first step, obviously, is to write down your intentions or exactly what you want to achieve. What intentions do you have for your life and your business? Write them down. When would you like to achieve them by? Put a date of accomplishment on your goals.
Get a pad of paper and start writing NOW. Be bold and write them all down. Your intentions are now your goals.
Think BIG! You must be clear...
You now have goals with deadlines. Your first step is accomplished but this is only half of the battle. Now comes the tricky part. Gut check time...
Do you feel as though you can achieve your goals? Do you actually believe you can achieve your goals?
Ahhhh, the look I see you giving your computer screen right now could melt ice. "Of course I believe I can achieve my goals" you say. "Why else would I have written them down?"
Well, writing them down is all fine and good but if don't actually believe deep down that you can achieve your goals, then they are meaningless. And THAT is why most never achieve their goals with their business endeavors.
If you do not believe you can achieve your goals...You can't.
You say you can. You wrote them down. But...
If you do not truly feel you can achieve your goals with absolute certainty...You won't. You must be crystal clear. Period.
Tough pill to swallow, I know. So how does one go about doing this?
This is where your mindset comes in to play - the other half of the battle.
Let's take this whole goal setting process just one step further now. Pay close attention here...
In your mind, see the goals you wrote down as already accomplished. What does it look like when it has been completed? You've nailed it. How does it make you feel? How has your life changed?
Go to that place right now (the outcome) and WRITE DOWN that part in addition to the goals you want to achieve. Get into the state of mind as having already achieved the goal instead of always wishing or hoping for it like everyone else does.
Assume the feeling of the outcome. Stay in that state of mind as often as possible. Once you actually feel the outcome you will then, and only then, be able to attract the goals that you wrote down.
This is a fundamental principal that has stood the test of time. DO NOT take it lightly.
So, it's really a two step process, yes?
"What you hold in your mind with energy and focus will tend to be created in your reality."
Read that again.
The great Joe Vitale wrote that in his recent book: "The Attractor Factor - 5 Easy Steps For Creating Wealth (Or Anything Else) From The Inside Out."

Remember, success doesn't happen to the uninvolved. Success happens to those who are not only persistent in reaching their goals, but to those who make a decision to reach their goals, get clear on what they want, and already feel themselves victorious in the so called goal setting battle...
A bit deep, I know...But without question, the difference maker.
You should never be without goals. Keep your intentions and your goals before you. Be clear, feel the outcome, and stay focused on the end result.
Take action.

A Simple Exercise

Grab a pen and paper. Write down your age. Subtract that from 78. Multiply this number by 12. What do you have? This number represents the number of months you have yet to live if you were to statistically reach the average age of 78 (women may get a little longer – statistically).

Its time to realize what is important in our lives. Realize our dreams. Live in abundance. Do what is important to us. You know what the 80/20 rule represents? We spend 20 percent of our time producing 80 percent of our results. We spend 80 percent of our time on frivolous activities – Watching TV, Shuffling Papers, Reading Junk Mail, Sitting in Traffic, Chasing Our Tails?!?

Now we never get back the time gone. But, You know what?!? We can live the way we want going forward. Yes, we can live our life on our terms going forward. We do not have to trade time for money. We do not have to spend time on mindless activities. We can focus, prioritize and live the life the way it was intended. Live in abundance.

Easier said than done – well – in a word – NO! Here’s the thing – success comes from purposeful action – definite purpose. You definitely want to succeed and enjoy your life and definitely want to provide for yourself and/or your family. Then you need to have a definite plan, a true desire and a definite purpose to pull this off. You have “X” amount of months left as per the exercise we just performed. I choose to spend those months focused on what is important. I choose to put a plan into action that is going to provide a residual income. Definition – Residual Income: Cash Flow that survives your effort. Set something up and let it pay you time and time again. Residual income is the catalyst to financial freedom and what will allow you to live life on your terms – no longer trading time for money, taking orders, punching a time clock or making quotas.

Fail to Plan, Plan to Fail

You may have heard this platitude before. It really resonates with me and is something I say to my team time and time again. To achieve your goals , whether they are to achieve a Maximum Residual Income, Financial Freedom, Fire Your Boss, etc..., you must have a plan to get there. Being plugged into a system or part of a group isn't enough. Subscribing to ideals is not a lottery ticket. Achieving success and attaining your goals requires following a detailed plan with commitment and desire. These two components of executing your plan through to a desired outcome are crucial. You know what you want, now you must commit to the work that needs to be done to reach those goals. If you truly commit to the plan it is because you have a real desire to get to your destination.

How do you come up with this plan of action? This can be the part where most get stifled before they even begin their action. The best way that I have learned to come up with a plan is to look to someone who has succeeded in the same areas that I am looking to succeed. Find out what they did to attain their success. You do not have to re-create the wheel. Success leaves clues. You can create your own plan by following the map of those who have already paved the road.

Once you have a general plan in place. Prioritize your action. Go with the activities that are going to generate your results. If your plan is toward an income goal -- Spend your time on M.M.A. - Money Making Activities. Do not get so caught up in planning that you never take action. The way to move to your goals is to execute your plan. This may seem like an obvious statement, but there are alot of people that spend so much time getting ready to get ready that they never get going.
